Take Your Next Step
Why should I be a ‘Christian’?
Everyone is guilty of sin. We all do wrong things, think wrong things, and say wrong things. Because of the error of mankind we were all condemned to an eternity away from God. But, ‘God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son so that whoever believes in Him may not be lost, but have eternal life’. John 3:16
You should become a Christian so that you will have eternal life.
What does it mean to be saved?
To be well-looked-after, delivered/set free and protected from the evil one, sin, the consequences of sin and eternal death.
The Bible says in John 5:24 “I tell you the truth, whoever hears what I say and believes in the One who sent me has eternal life. That person will not be judged guilty but has already left death and entered life.” (New Century Version). When we believe in Jesus Christ, He saves us from judgement and gives us access to live with Him in eternity.
Why is it important to pray?
Prayer is our way to talk to God. It is how we communicate with God to keep our relationship with Him alive and active. When we first become a Christian, we say a prayer asking for forgiveness and acceptance as one of His children. You can say this prayer aloud as a confession of your faith in Jesus:
Lord God, I believe I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. I believe Jesus Christ shed His precious blood and died for the forgiveness of my sin. I am willing to change and turn from my sins. I now invite Jesus Christ to come into my heart and life as my personal Saviour and ask that You write my name in the Lamb’s Book of Life for eternity. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen!
If you have just said the above Prayer, Welcome to the Family of God!
The Bible tells us in John 1:12 “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the light to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” (New King James Version). You have just become a child of God through Jesus Christ. That’s exciting news and we know God is rejoicing to have you as His Child.
Your Next Steps
Read your Bible every day to get to know Christ better!
1.
Growing in God’s Word
The Bible is the Word of God, and reading it is one of the best ways to know Him more deeply. Through Scripture, we learn about God’s character, His promises, and His plan for our lives.
To make your study easier and more meaningful, we recommend using a Study Bible. These often include helpful notes, explanations of key passages, book and chapter summaries, maps, timelines, and illustrations that bring the Word to life.
Choosing a clear and reliable translation also makes a big difference. We suggest the English Standard Version (ESV), New Living Translation (NLT), or the New King James Version (NKJV).
To build consistency, set aside time each day to read. You may also find it helpful to use a Bible reading plan or download a Bible app on your phone. A great place to start is the Gospel of Mark, as it gives a powerful and straightforward introduction to the life of Jesus.
If you have questions along the way, don’t be afraid to discuss them with a mature Christian or reach out to us for guidance and support.
Finally, don’t forget to join our ACCESS Bible Study every Wednesday online. These sessions are designed to encourage and strengthen you as you grow in your new life in Christ.
It’s Time to Get Baptised!
2.
Water Baptism – Your Next Step in Christ
Water baptism is a clear command from Jesus Christ and represents your first public step of obedience in your journey with Him.
In the Bible, we see that every believer, after declaring Jesus as their Lord and Saviour, took the step of water baptism. Even Jesus Himself—though without sin—was baptised by John the Baptist, saying:
“It is fitting for us to fulfil all righteousness.” (Matthew 3:15)
By doing so, He set the example for His disciples and followers, showing the importance of baptism.
What the Bible Teaches About Baptism
- Colossians 2:12–13 –
“Having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised with Him through your faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. When you were dead in your sins... God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins.”
- Acts 2:38 –
“Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’”
- John 3:5 – “Jesus answered, ‘Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.’”
Why Baptism Matters
- It is a public declaration of your faith and commitment to Jesus.
- It symbolises being buried with Christ and raised to new life in Him.
- It reflects your desire to be identified with Jesus and His church.
- The New Testament shows no unbaptised disciples—the pattern is clear: believe and be baptised.
