Welcome to the Outreach Ministry

The Outreach Ministry Section is an integral part of the vision of Ruach City Church. Our aim is to equip team members fully and ensure that our activities fit into the vision of Ruach City Church in line with God’s agenda for the world. Currently, the Outreach Ministry Section is made up of the following ministry sections: Prison, Homeless, Evangelism and the JAF Project.

The Evangelism Team exists to fulfil the Great Commission by taking the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ beyond the four walls of the church and into the wider community. In keeping with the instruction in Luke 14:23, the team is committed to reaching people who may never ordinarily consider entering a church building and creating opportunities for them to encounter the love, hope, and saving grace of Jesus Christ.

Evangelism is the expression of God’s love through sharing the message of salvation and communicating the significance of the sacrifice Jesus Christ made for humanity. It is about reaching people where they are, demonstrating genuine compassion, offering encouragement, and pointing individuals towards the hope found in Christ.

Street evangelism is an important and effective means of reaching individuals within the wider community who may not otherwise have contact with a church. It provides an opportunity to engage with people directly, build meaningful relationships, share the Gospel, and demonstrate the practical love of God.

In Matthew 10:1–32, Jesus sent His disciples out to minister and proclaim the Good News, providing an example of active outreach and service that continues to inspire the work of the Evangelism Team today.

The Evangelism Team operates weekly across our various locations, providing opportunities for members to engage with and serve their local communities. Night Evangelism

In addition to the weekly activities, quarterly street evangelism initiatives bring together teams from our different locations to reach people within the wider community. These outreach activities are focused on:

  • Sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
  • Demonstrating the love and compassion of God.
  • Encouraging and supporting individuals facing difficult circumstances.
  • Providing food and practical assistance to those who are homeless or living on the streets.
  • Offering hope, encouragement, prayer, and spiritual support.
  • Building meaningful connections with people within the community.

We believe that everyone needs the opportunity to hear and respond to the message of salvation, and that Jesus Christ is the source of that salvation.

The Evangelism Team is therefore committed to going beyond the traditional boundaries of the church, meeting people where they are, serving with compassion, and making the love of Christ known through both word and action.

Our desire is not simply to preach to the community, but to love, serve, encourage, and bring hope to those we encounter, creating opportunities for lives to be positively transformed through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Homeless Ministry is committed to providing regular practical, emotional, and spiritual support to homeless individuals within the local community. The ministry seeks to demonstrate the love and compassion of Jesus Christ by meeting people with dignity, kindness, and genuine care.

The ministry provides practical assistance to those experiencing homelessness and challenging circumstances. This includes providing freshly prepared meals, clothing, and other essential household items based on the needs of individuals within the community.

Ruach City Church - Night Evangelism/Homeless Centre Cooks

Beyond meeting practical needs, the Homeless Ministry also creates opportunities to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, offering hope, encouragement, prayer, and spiritual support to those we serve.

The Homeless Ministry operates every Tuesday, with members of the cooking team sometimes required to prepare meals on Mondays to ensure that food is ready for the weekly outreach.

During and after the serving of meals, team members engage clients in friendly and meaningful conversations. These interactions provide an opportunity to build relationships, understand individuals more personally, and gain a better understanding of the challenges and circumstances they face on a day-to-day basis.

Clients are encouraged to share any areas of their lives where they would like prayer or spiritual support. Prayer may take place in different forms depending on the individual's preference and circumstances, including:

  • Collective Open Prayer: Prayer offered collectively with those present.
  • One-to-One Prayer: Personal prayer offered privately with an individual.

Through these conversations and prayer opportunities, the ministry seeks to provide encouragement, hope, and reassurance while respecting the dignity, privacy, and individual circumstances of every person we serve.

The Homeless Ministry is committed to serving the local community with compassion, consistency, dignity, and respect. Through practical assistance, meaningful relationships, prayer, and the sharing of the Gospel, the ministry seeks to demonstrate the love of Christ and bring hope to individuals experiencing homelessness.

Our desire is to ensure that every person we encounter feels seen, valued, respected, supported, and welcomed, while creating opportunities for them to experience the practical and spiritual impact of God's love.

The Prison Ministry is committed to building meaningful and lasting relationships with individuals in prison through partnership and engagement with the Prison Chaplaincy. The ministry seeks to provide spiritual, emotional, and pastoral support to those who are incarcerated, while creating opportunities to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, offer hope, encouragement, and support, and positively impact lives through the message of faith and transformation. The impact of the ministry can be seen through the testimonies of individuals whose lives have been touched and transformed through these engagements.

Ruach City Church Prison Ministry – Testimonies

The Prison Ministry regularly visits inmates at Brixton Prison, as well as other prisons across the South East of England. Through these visits, the team provides encouragement, support, and a listening ear to individuals who may be experiencing challenging and difficult circumstances during their time in custody.

An important part of the ministry is sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, offering hope, faith, encouragement, and the message of God's love and salvation.

The ministry also seeks to maintain appropriate contact with individuals following visits, including through written correspondence and letters, where permitted. This ongoing communication helps the team maintain relationships and provide continued encouragement and spiritual support.

The Prison Ministry's activities include:

  • Regular visits to inmates through the Prison Chaplaincy.
  • Sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
  • Providing spiritual encouragement and pastoral support.
  • Building positive and respectful relationships with inmates.
  • Maintaining appropriate ongoing communication through written correspondence and letters.
  • Offering prayer and encouragement where permitted.
  • Supporting individuals as they navigate their circumstances while in custody.
  • Our Commitment

The Prison Ministry operates on Sundays and carries out all activities in accordance with the rules, regulations, safeguarding requirements, and operational guidelines established by the relevant prison services.

The team is committed to conducting its ministry with respect, compassion, integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism, recognising the importance of working collaboratively with the Prison Chaplaincy and prison authorities.

Our desire is to bring hope, encouragement, faith, and the love of Christ to those who are incarcerated, while providing a consistent and positive presence within the prison environment.

During the early stages of the Ministry, Bishop Francis recalls being deeply concerned by the chronic social challenges affecting the local community, particularly the difficulties faced by young people in Brixton.

Recognising the significant impact that drug and alcohol misuse was having on individuals, families, and the wider community, this experience led Bishop Francis to establish the JAF Project, a drop-in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programme designed to provide practical, educational, and spiritual support to those affected by substance and alcohol abuse.

The JAF Project provides a supportive environment where individuals affected by drug and alcohol dependency can access teaching, advice, guidance, and spiritual support.

The programme supports individuals at different stages of their journey, including those who are ready to begin the rehabilitation process and those who are already in recovery.

Through ongoing support and encouragement, the project seeks to help individuals make positive and sustainable changes in their lives while providing a safe and supportive environment in which they can work towards recovery.

The JAF Project is committed to supporting individuals who are struggling with substance and alcohol abuse by:

  • Providing access to relevant teaching, advice, and guidance.
  • Offering spiritual support and encouragement.
  • Supporting individuals who are ready to begin their rehabilitation journey.
  • Providing continued encouragement to those in recovery.
  • Helping individuals develop the confidence and resilience needed to pursue a healthier lifestyle.
  • Creating opportunities for individuals to experience positive and lasting change.

The ultimate goal of the JAF Project is to empower individuals to achieve lasting abstinence from drugs and alcohol, enabling them to move towards healthier, more stable, and fulfilling lives free from the effects of addiction.

Through practical support, education, spiritual encouragement, and continued engagement, the project seeks to help individuals overcome the challenges associated with substance and alcohol dependency and realise their potential to live full, productive, and meaningful lives.
